Varicose Veins Treatment

Varicose veins treatment is also applied in our center, successfully.

If you want definitive treatment but want to avoid surgery and general anaesthesia and to get back to normal activities quickly you should consider foam sclerotherapy or endovenous laser treatment.

Most patients with small or moderate size varicose veins are suitable for Foam Sclerotherapy. If there has been previous surgery to the veins of the leg this does not cause any difficulty in using foam sclerotherapy. If varicose veins recur some years after initial treatment then it is straightforward to use the same method foam sclerotherapy again.

The solutions that are injected into the vessels makes them shrink.  These are mixed with a gas to create a foam. Foam pushes the blood out of the way and completely fills the vein: the foam is not diluted by the blood. In fact, far less solution has to be injected to obtain the same effect.

Treatment is usually performed in a treatment room or ultrasound examination room. Very little discomfort results from the injections so no sedation or anaesthetic is required. The whole treatment usually takes no more than 20 – 30 minutes.

A firm bandage is applied to the leg to keep the veins compressed so that they do no fill with blood when the patient stands up. It  is usually worn for a week or two followed by an elastic compression stocking for a further week.

Endovenous laser treatment suitable for almost all patients however short or wide their veins are.

A small amount of local anaesthetic is injected into the skin over the vein and a needle is inserted into it.

A laser fibre is passed upto the highest point as decided.Local anaesthetic solution is then injected around the vein through multiple tiny needle pricks. The laser is then fired up and pulled down . The laser and catheter are removed and the needle puncture covered with a small dressing. The treatment takes about 45-60 minutes per leg.If you’re having both legs treated the process is repeated on the other leg.

It is less painful than other surgerical procedures, and it has a shorter recovery time. Only local anesthesia or a light sedative is needed.

A compression stocking is then put on. Patient can leave the hospital within hours and return to normal activity very next day.
